Question
Hello Dana my name is Karen Robinson originally known as Pearson. I messaged yourself just over 4 years ago about my bunny Kayleigh who became very ill & you asked me if I had cats which I replied that I do & pretty much worked out why kayleigh had gotten ill I still miss my sweet little friends to this day but I did buy another young bunny who I named Ellie nickname Lou Lou & she was absolutely wonderful she would roll on demand, use a potty, I would spend hours everyday with Lou Lou in my room listening to my music which I would sing or hum to her whilst we're laying on the carpet nose to nose, she would chase every1 else out the room it was so funny xx we decided to move to Cornwall from Nottingham uk for a better life for our kiddies & after 10 months my beautiful princess caught myxomatosis but the vet suspected it as her eye lids were red & he said rabbits have been saved from the disease & instead of treating Lou Lou for myxomatosis he treated her for just conjunctivitis & this cost Lou Lou precious time xx after 6 days Lou Lou lost her appetite & was having difficulty breathing & I couldn't let it continue so I had to have my sweet beautiful princess put to sleep xx after 4 great years Lou Lou was my life just gets snatched away, I feel cheated in a space of 1 month & 2 weeks we lost our old horse hinny though accident in field then 3 days after that I noticed Lou lous eye red 6 days after that I lose her then shortly after that our cat flower of 8 years from birth get hit by car & i have to have her put down xx moving to Cornwall for a better life turned out to be a massive mistake. Sorry for the long message xxx kind regards. Xx karen

Answer
Dear Karen,

I am so sorry for the terrible string of tragedies that has struck you and your family.  I wish there was something I could say to make the pain easier, but only time will do that.

I hope you can take some small comfort in knowing that even if Lou Lou had a life that was far too short, it was filled with love and being treated like a princess.  She passed from this life in the company of her best friend.  Most rabbits never even know the touch of a gentle hand.

I know it is too late for Lou Lou, and I am sorry for that.  But if you should ever find the strength to have another bunny in your life, please know that there are vaccinations for myxomatosis and for Viral Hemorrhagic Disease, the two deadly viral diseases that can take your bunny's life if you live in certain areas (and yours is one).  I wish I could have shared that with you sooner.  But if you can save other rabbits from Lou Lou's fate, then maybe some small thing can come from this.

I am so sorry, and my heart goes out to you.  I am sending many healing thoughts.

Take care,

Dana
