Question
Dana, I am also one of the rabbit resource people on allexperts. I got the following question and have told the questioner to go back and contact you. I have raised rabbits for 30+ years and have a 64 hole rabbitry, down from 150 holes ten years ago but veterinary is not my specialty..and frankly, 'washing a rabbit' has never crossed my mind.. Expect this person to contact you. No reply is necessary..but in order to get this erased from allexperts, I suppose a reply like 'I got it'. would get them off your list.  regards, SR

Hi,
I have a dutch bunny. she is about 5 month's old. three weeks ago I had
given her a bath with special formulated bunny shampoo. A couple days
later,i noticed her right eye was very red and inflamed . a few days later
i noticed there was a white squiggily line in the pupil. A few days after
it looked like it cleared up a little  but the  while line was stil there
and every day I see it, its still there and is in some different position.
As of now its like a while ring around her pupil. as a matter of fact her
puple's are two different sizes. did the bunny shampoo cause this? I'm
afraid its some type of ring  worm. My mom doesnt want 2 bring her to the
vet because she thinks she's gonna have to spend like $400 dollars for one
visit. I dont want my bunny to go blind or die. I <3 her very much. If you
can, can you please tell me what it is and how it can be stopped or how to
make it go away?
                                      Thanks again!

Answer
Hi, Dr. Steve!

Thanks for the forward.  I hope she contacts me because this is more serious than damage from shampoo.  It sounds as if the bunny may have an intraocular infection which must be seen by a good rabbit vet or even a veterinary ophthalmologist.

If you ever have veterinary questions, please do feel free to forward them to me.  But you also can direct them to a good rabbit veterinarian by giving them the following URL:

www.rabbit.org/vets

which has a link to good rabbit vets all over the U.S., as well as some in other countries.

Thanks for your help!

Dana
