Question
Hi. we adopted a dwarf bunny from the pound. we named her claire. she isnt very nice. when we put food in her cage, she makes a grunting sound and scratches. she does the same thing when we go to pet her. she is 6 months old. when I hold her, she seems to be ok, but I get the feeling she isnt nice. we are having her fixed on the 16th. the vet said it will make her less territorial and more lovable. is this true or is she always going to be mean. I really love her and I want her to love me too. what can i do?
thank you,
michael lauria

Answer
Yes, hormonal female rabbits are unfortunately like female humans with severe PMS.  They growl, bite, snarl, and lunge.  Spaying will stop a lot of this behavior.  She could still be somewhat territorial even afterwards, but you could always put food in her cage when she is not in it, or feel her outside of it.
