oats fattening?

Question
Dear Pricilla,
My baby potbelly just turned 3 months on the 11 of this month. She is the greatest thing in the world. I took her to the vet and she weighed 7.8 pds one week and the next week she weighed 9.2. Is this normal. She is the runt of her bunch. Does this mean she will stay smaller than usual? Or is it not the same as with dogs and cats?
Also I feed her an all animal food pellet that the woman i bought her from told me to get to feed her with. At night and in the morns I will put some in a bowl with a little bit of raw uncooked oats and put warm water on it. She loves it. Is oats ok to feed her or will it add alot of weight to her. She does not eat "like a pig". The food swells when wet but it isn't even half a cup that I give her at a time, and half the time she leaves some and doesnt finish it. Just want to make sure of everything. I am going to order your book today and I am so excited to read it. Thanks for all your help.

Answer
First of all, good for you for watching your beloved piggy's weight.
Obesity is the #1 health problem.
Pigs don't digest oats very well, it is all fiber.
So, within reason, you can add it to her meal.
However, dark green fresh veggies have more nutritional value.
Runts in pigs are usually smaller because they either got less nutrition in the womb or when nursing.
Chances are that all the pigs in the litter will be about the same size at age one if they are fed the same.
Good luck,
Priscilla
