Question
I hear that a piglet hooves can change as they grow older. Is that true? Also I hear the same thing about the snout? Is that true as well?

Answer
Yes, pigs can and often do change color. Black pigs can turn white as they get older. These pigs may turn almost completely gray or white, or develop white socks or markings on their necks and backs. Piglets born a deep, rusty red color usually turn black. On a white pig with black spots, the bristles on the black spots are usually white, creating a silvery look and earning these pigs the nickname "blue butt". Sometimes, black bristles will appear amongst the white bristles, making the spots look darker.

The color change may start when the piglets are as young as 8 weeks or as old as 4 years. Usually, the earlier the change starts, the greater the color change. Also, black pigs that turn completely white sometimes start to change back to black again.
