Question
Good afternoon,

My pot bellied is currently at the vet recovery from her spaying surgery. She is 5 months old.  Do you have any advice for her care when we bring her home and while she recovers?

Thanks!

Answer
Follow the vets instructions on caring for her wound. Watch for signs of infection, like redness, swelling or pus.

Hypothermia is a danger in the first hours after surgery. Make sure she stays warm and toasty, but not too hot, until 48 hours after surgery.

Pigs sometimes do not like to drink water after surgery, so if she won't drink try giving her juicy foods like watermelon, or wet lettuce leaves. If she won't eat, call the vet right away.

Keep her off of stairs, and don't let her jump up on furniture for at least a week. Watch her as she pees and poops. If she doesn't poop after a couple of days, or acts like it's difficult for her to do either one, call your vet.
