My pigs weight..

Question
Hello,
We have an 8 month old male pot belly pig. What should he weigh at 8 months of age? He is about 23 pounds now, however, I know that his healthy weight at 3 months should have been 15-30 lbs, where it was only about 11lb. Now he is over twice that age, but has only gained maybe 10-13 pounds. Should he be over 30lbs or is he ok at the light 23-25 lbs he weighs. He eats a quarter cup of food in the morning, around 6am, a quarter cup at 4.30pm when we get home from work, and a snack around 8pm. He also spends a lot of time outside eating grass and leaves and often comes in with a very full belly. I am just not quite sure why he isn't gaining the weight we expected him to.
Please let us know!

Answer
The most important thing is how the pig looks. He should not have any protruding ribs or hip bones. He should have a padded belly, but he should not look like he's swallowed a basketball. When you look down on him from above or at directly on one side, his body should have some shape.

Normally the rule of thumb is that healthy babies should gain about 1 lb per week. When a pig is much smaller, it may be a naturally small pig, or a pig who will have a later growth spurt. Twenty years ago, most pigs grew quickly until a year, reached near full size at age 2, then growing just a bit more, very slowly, until age 5 or 6. In the last few years, we've seen piglets that stay very small until they are close to 2 years, then have a major growth spurt.

The rule of thumb for feeding is 1/2 c per 15 lb of piglet, divided into two meals. A 24 lb piglet should be getting a little over 3/4 c per day, divided into two meals. So it won't hurt to increase his feed.

If piggy looks and acts good, then everything is probably Ok.
