Potbelly pig humping stuff

Question
I just recently got a mini potbelly pig & we named him Gilbert. When we first got him he was very settled down & distant. A day later he began  hump us & our couches & everything he can hump. This is very aggravating. Also 2 days ago I had him neutered! They said the humping would stop & it hasn't. What should I do?!
Thanks
Lexie&Gilbert

Answer
Yes, the humping behavior should stop after neutering, but it takes awhile for all those hormones to flush out of his system. He should settle down after a week or so. If he's still humping after 3 - 4 weeks, then he may have a retained testicle.

Also, if he's bored, the humping could be partly due to a bad habit. Give him lots of toys and distractions, and, if weather permits, time to be outside.

Simple trick training helps a lot with bonding. The point is not for the pig to perform tricks, but for pig and person to learn how to communicate with each other, and for the pig to learn to respect people and follow their instructions.

Another bonding technique is to wait until it's piggy's usual sleepy time. Then settle in quietly with piggy. Talk softly, always telling piggy what you're going to do next, and rub piggy's belly, behind the ears, etc.
