Question
i just bought a baby pot belly pig and she is always rubbing and scratching her self on stuff thevet said pit bag balm all over her skin but shes still doing it  and she bites all the time and is very mean to us when shes not a sleep but what is wearied is she wants tosleep next to us

Answer
Pigs have naturally dry, flaky skin. Lotion can help. You can use any product for people on your pig, Corn Huskers is a widely available and inexpensive lotion that works well and is not greasy. Many people prefer to use Avon Skin So Soft on their pigs.

Excessive itchiness can mean mites or mange. Your vet can take a skin scraping to see if the problem is mites. If you need to find a vet, there's a list at www.farec.org

Baby piglets explore the world with their mouths and noses. They root, or push with their noses, on everything. They especially do this when feeding, because the action helps Mom pig make more milk.

The fact that she wants to cuddle next to you to sleep is a good sign.

Growing piglets need a good diet to be healthy. The rule of thumb is a minimum of 1/2 cup of pig pellets per day for piglets under 15 lb, divided into two meals. For piglets 15 lb and up, the general rule is 1/2 cup per 15 lb of piglet, divided into two meals.

I highly recommend the book Pot-Bellied Pig Behavior and Training by Priscilla Valentine. Pris really understands how pigs think and why they do the things they do. She explains all sorts of piggy behaviors in much more detail than I can here. Her book is available from Amazon.
