Question
Wednesday my rat has developed just more than sneezing now
seems like :

*some red discharge has come out her nose that smells like blood

*her eyes have red discharge around them also

*barely eating or drinking if she is at all

* looks like when she breathes - it caves in by her back legs/stomach area

*seems like shes having problems breathing cause it sounds like shes gasping for air

Today is day 4 of her condition

i cant afford a vet and theres none local that would see a rat anyways
im not giving up
SO FAR- weve tried:
* putting her in a cage alone (she doesnt move much and seems like it doesnt help)

*giving her alvacodo and grapes (she ate a piece or 2 but hasnt touched it since - this was over about 2 hrs ago)

*giving her a towel and box to curl up in (she seems to be liking it)

*tried sucking stuff out of her nose with a baby blue sucker thing

*tried making sure her throat was clear

she cant stand being away from the other rat we have she wont eat or anything when seperated

heres a link to a video to give you a visual of what she looks like in the condition

Answer
DO NOT GIVE HER ANY MORE AVOCADO!

Avocado is DEADLY to rats. Some people say to use a selective paste that is between the skin and the pit, however, its still a dangerous food and I do NOT EVER suggest feeding it unless you want to kill your rat.

Put her back in with her cagemate and put them BOTH in a small area like the bathroom with a humidifier (preferably cold, although warm is better than nothing). On one section of the cage, where she can move in and out of it as she wants to, place a heat lamp (I suggest a red light found in the reptile section of any pet store, no greater than 50 watts. READ the box, it should give you approximate temperatures according to distance from the bulb. One corner of her cage SHOULD BE somewhere near 85* and the other considerably cooler for her to either bask in or move away from it)

She NEEDS antibiotics and she needs them soon. Without seeing a vet, its very, very difficult to get them. I can tell you what she needs however dosing is dependent on the individual rat. She needs baytril and doxycycline combo, sweetened preferably. Begin offering her little, high calorie treats like dark chocolate, baby foods, Nutrical (for Kittens or Puppies), Ensure drink or Glucerna drink, anything that will boost her energy and calorie intake simutaneously. CALORIES convert to energy and make her more hungry and encourage her to eat. Also offer her water through the end of a syrine to encourage her to drink more readily, as often they won't use the water bottle if its tough to reach and/or has a hard ball to push with their tongue.

SHE NEEDS A VET. I suggest you find one, quickly, or your little friend may possibly die.
