Rat kept away from Babies

Question
Hi, I have 2 rats in a cage, and ones the mom. I caught them playing tug of war so removed to non-mom, and asked Sandra Todd about when I could put her back. The only reply I got was "Your welcome" So maybe something got lost in cyber space...anyway should I wait until the babies are gone or when they're wondering around and nursing less?

Answer
I would wait until you've weaned and removed the babies. Generally nursing moms (or weaning moms) can be really... evil... toward roommates. Of course this isn't always the case but generally I find that to be true, so for everyone's safety, I'd recommend just waiting until the babies have gone to new homes. If you plan on keeping some (or all) of the female babies, then wait until five to six weeks of age, then clean and rearrange the cage, and THEN reintroduce the Non-Mom.

Good luck :)
