Question
Hi Sandra, I am the proud owner of 2 dogs, 2 Ferrets, 4 Sugar Gliders, 3 Horses, 4 little girls (my kids :) and of course my big kid husband and NOW my little wild rat pup. He is 2 weeks old, he just opened his eyes yesterday. He is doing really well and he has very obviously made up his mind that I am momma. I can't seem to find any info on what to give a wild rat pup as food, what to wean them on. The books I have say to gradually start them on solids around this time, but what??? I know you are very busy. Could you please help me? Thank you kindly, Amanda

Answer
Treat him as you would a regular rat.  I raised a wild rat and they are just like domestic rats.

You can feed him a good rodent block, like Mazuri, and moisten it with warm soy formula to help it soften. Around 3.5 to 4 weeks old he can have it without being softened up. Please refer to my website for proper diet for rats.   He can be weaned from the formula your using by 4 weeks old. If you got him to live long enough to open his eyes, your doing great with him!
