Question
Hallo there, need a bit of advice. I have a wonderful pair of naked dumbo rats, both sisters and both one year old. Cookie is always getting chest infections, but gets treated regular at the vet for this, but its Monkey Im concerned about. I only just noticed it today as it was unusual :S I know my girls come into heat around about the same time and all that, but Monkey is bleeding from her vagina. She doesnt seem to be in pain, as her name suggests she is still jumping around like a nutter :D She hasnt lost any weight that I have noticed, both of the sisters have been skinny since I got them when they were 8 weeks. I did have a look, and the options are a bit worrying :S she still goes to the loo as far as Ive seen, doesnt mind me picking her up, hasnt got any hard lumps around the area so Im a bit wary as what to do. All the things I read were a bit 'oh dear, it could be a tumor, infection or giving birth.' She most definately isnt Pregnant or going into labour, she has pee'd on me several times and its not different in colour or smell...but the bleeding is a bit concerning, should I worry and get to a vet? I know it seems daft, but I really dont know what to do, dont want to worry unduly, but I dont want to dismiss something just incase it IS something really bad.

Answer
Any bleeding vaginally is a cause for concern.  I am going to say the same thing you have been told:

Its either a tumor or uterine infection, one in particular, pyometra, which can be dangerous and if left untreated, fatal.

Infection can be treated by using antibiotics and if its a tumor, spaying is usually the way to resolve it.

You will, of course, need a very qualified Vet to treat her. Even though your in the UK, I can help you find a good vet for her.
