Question
Please could you tell me how to treat my 2yr3mnth old dumbo rat.She started with small amount of vaginal bleeding with has turned to a smelly vaginal discharge. She is eating and drinking normally and still enjoys lots of cuddles and chatters away fussed over.i have tried a small amount of pure cranberry juice in her drinking water and bathing her twice a day to keep her clean. Is there an antibiotic you could suggest i could buy on line and the dosage. I know Baytril is good for upper respiratory but would it be effective for this problem.

Answer
Hi Lizboxall

Sounds like the little lady is having some problems. I am going to assume she is intact since you didnt mention she was spayed (if she was, she would have less of a change of having infection unless it was vaginal)
She more than likely has an infection in her uterus and often, mycoplasmosis is the culprit, so baytril would work. However, she may not have infection and with the bleeding it could be related to a tumor or an abscess too.  Usually we take a sample of the discharge and identify the organism so it i

As for buying antibiotics online, usually for the more powerful drugs, you may need a prescription for them, but I am not sure how it all works. Have you used these online pharmacies before? What other drugs can you buy and where are they shipped from?  Are you in the US or the UK?

I can tell you what dose to use for baytril but need to know what her weight is first.

Please let me know these few things first and we can go from there.
Your doing a great job nursing her (bathing her, cranberry juice in case it is urinary tract related, which in this case I dont feel it is. It is good news though that she is still eating, drinking and wanting to get lovins from her rat mom so keep up the good work and we will try to get her turned around.

hang in there
