rat tail problem

Hi Sandra! My daughter has a pet rat we bought at a pet store a little over a year ago. I really don't know his exact age but he's a dumbo rat. Anyway he's got this problem with his tail. It seems bumpy and dry and all the hair has come off of it. The hair does seem to be growing back but the bumps don't seem to be going away. Oh and it seems to hurt somewhat if you touch it. I just don't know if maybe he has something wrong or is this normal?

He needs a good vet qualified in treating rats.  This sounds like an infection.    

The rats tail is not just for balance , it serves a very important purpose such as playing  vital role in controlling body temp.
