Revolution for Rats

Hi Sandra,

Our rat Lucky has mites.  We bought a box of Revolution (Kitten/Puppy Strength) for him.  It comes with 3 mauve vials.  We Treated Lucky with 1 Drop between the shoulder blades as you suggested in an earlier question, gave him all new bedding and lots of love.

How long do you think it will be before he stops scratching?  Does it work overnight?  How long before we should put on another drop if we don't see any results?  Do we have to bath him afterwards?

No baths, do not repeat for 3 weeks no matter what. It wont work overnight, because we dont know how many mites there are out there.  New eggs may have hatched or are lurking around, often in the carpet or wherever Lucky has been walking around etc... these eggs may hatch and the new mites have to bite to get the poison, too.  This is how it works.  The selemectin (revolution) enters the blood stream of the rat and when the parasites bite, they are poisoned and die. The cycle needs to be broken. Freeze any bedding for 24 hrs before using, this will kill eggs and mites too.

You SHOULD see results in, say, a week....but if the infestation is bad, it may take longer. If it does take over a week, be sure to dose again in 3 weeks in case any mites laid eggs the same day you dosed Lucky, as they take up to 2 weeks to hatch.
