My near 3 year old rat now has 5 tumors

Question
Hi I wrote to you before and I thought I'd update you on Splinter my near 3 year old rat. I spoke to another vet recently and he said they were definatly mammory tumors and most likely benign but as there was so many, last time he checked there were 5 tumors, he didn't want to operate as more would most likely grow. I went on holiday for a week and the tumors haven't seemed to grow at all but my father, who has owned rats in the past, said that Splinter hasn't been very well. She is extremely lethergic and losing weight even though she is eating and drinking normal. I've added some 'Pro-C Probiotic' fior rats which claims it is friendly bacteria and soluble fibre, with vitamin c and glucose, for digestive support but hasn't seemed to help. Is there anything I can give to her to help her put weight on or what sort of foods or vitamins shall I give her to help support her through her old age. I feed her a high quality rat nugget which she has had all her life. Thanks Nicola

Answer
Thank you so much for the update. Your doing a good job caring for your old girl. Please read on my website, sandyscrittercity.com and refer to the page on caring for elderly rats. You will find alot of ideas on making her comfortable in her old age. Also, you can give her baby foods, plenty to choose from. I would use the strained stage one so there is extra water in there if she isnt drinking enough. Hope this helps.
