Question
I purchased 2 11 week old female rats from a pet store who breed there own rats. I saw them when they were first born with there mum.I have had rats from her before and have had no problems with them. These 2 are terrified of everything i have had then 2 weeks now and have not been able to handle them or get them to come out of there cage for play time.Everytime i make any type of noise or movement they both bolt back to there bed. They are very lively in there cage and when the cage door is open at times they will come and look outside but are very nervous any movement or noise they bolt back to there bed. I have 2 other female rats which i have used the trust training method on and it worked well but with the 2 new ones they will not take treats from me if i try to give them a treat they run i am puzzled as to what to do as how do you gain there trust if you cannot get near them without scaring them any suggestions would be helpful.

Answer
The easiest way to fix this, that I find works with fearful babies is buying a bonding pouch the kind they sell for sugar gliders, and just taking the babies with me EVERYWHERE I go.. including stores, shopping and etc.  that way they hear and smell everything and know that they are safe with me.  You can give that a try, it will usually take about 2-3 weeks for them to calm down enough to the point where they are friendly little babies again.
