Indian Ringneck Parrots and dogs

Question
I have 4 chihuahua dogs. They all way less than five pounds. I also have 3 other dogs that weigh between 10 and 25 pounds. They are all housedogs.

My husband was thinking of buying and Indian Ringneck Parrot and we were wondering how well the parrot might get along with the dogs and whether or not to get the parrot. The parrot is a little over a year old.

Could you tell us if this might work out.

                        Thank you

Answer
Generally Indian Ringneck Parakeets are pretty fearless- sometimes aggressive. Most parrots easily become accustomed to dogs/cats if they are well behaved. My bird will actually throw food on the floor to get my dog to come over, and then will bite him! And he's 100 pounds! You need to always closely supervise interactions between the bird and the dogs. But, as a general rule, you usually have to be more concerned about the dogs being aggressive towards the bird (since they could so easily injury or kill the bird... and the birds are often not afraid of them).

I hope this helps.
