Sleep Cages

Question
I have an African Grey and a Green Cheek conure which both reside
mostly in my room. Most of my time is spent in there so they get
alot of attention, but at night i sometimes wake one, which wakes
the other. So i've been thinking about getting two smaller cages for
them to sleep in another quieter room, which is the laundry room.
My question is, should i be concerned about my birdies sleeping in
the laundry room if no machines are being used while they are in
there? I wouldn't think there should be a problem, but i'd much
rather ask ahead of time. thanks alot

Answer
Hi, Cody.  Thanks for posting!

You did good by asking in advance!  I wish more people would ask in advance before they act/react when it comes to birds.  This is extremely important.

I don't think you should be concerned about waking one or both during the nighttime, unless waking them results in them becoming frightened and one or both becoming disoriented.  This wakeup is only temporary I'm assuming, and I'm sure they both go back to sleep quickly afterward.  They probably wake up several times in the night all by themselves, but you just don't know it!  Yes, you could keep them in "sleep cages" in another room, but if you decide to do this, you will need to gradually get them acclimated to the other room and their new cages.  In other words, if this is what you decide to do, don't just buy the new cages, place them inside, and place the cages in the other room all in one day or two.  The birds will need time to get used to the new cages and will need time to get used to the change of sleeping in another room versus in your room.  I'd recommend you take one step at a time with your birds if you move them so they don't develop negative behavior as a result.

Come back if you have additional questions.
