are you in the midwest? i know they have been getting hit really hard. ive had a change of plans, im not heading back to Portoand quite yet, but moving to Denver in 4 weeks instead. they say they get hit with bad snow 1 in every 5 years, im hopeing this winter was it for a few years! hahaha
well thank you, i know it can be hard to figure them out at times, be easier if there was a special manual for him! lol yes everynight when im watching tv or checking email, he touches all my freckles with his tongue, i can feel his little breath, its so cute! then he gently runs a line with his beak across my cheek. i dont quite trust him tho when it comes to my eyelashes. hahaha i cant think of anything i do that would resemble that..ill have to think about it.
hes also gotten into ducking his head own inside my shirt and rubbing his head on my chest, im prety sure thats just sniggling, it always makes me smile!

-----Question-----
Hi there,
2 things, first, i had a serious conversation about the rescue goffins with the shop owner. she said she doesnt know that i have what it takes to commit to this bird and his needs. i reminded her that ive been visiting with him faithfully for 4 months now and that we could at least try it. hed have lots of attention, wonderful fresh food and above all else, tons of love. she said she thinks im very capable but again isnt sure it would be in his best interest to come home with me. so thats that. i am fighting to get him and the other birds out of her care...we'll see...
the other quesiton is about my baby Lakota. he is also a goffin's, 10 months old now. he plays a game with me when hes on the floor. he taps his beak 2 or 3 times and i knock on the floor and match what he does. then he will do it again but in different order and ill match that. hahaha while doing this he also does this thing with his beak, its almost like drawing a line across the front of him on the floor...what does that mean? he also does something like that with his beak after he "says goodnight" to all the freckles on my cheek. he gently rubs his beak in a line across my face. only much gentler than when hes on the floor. i know what the pounding is, but the "beak line" thing is a little strange, it isnt a beak wipe, but really more like i said of drawing a str8 line...
thx Amanda
p.s. hope all is well with you!

Hi, Amanda!

Good for you!  I'm glad to hear you're going to try to get the bird(s) from her.  How absurd she doesn't think you'd make a good mom for him.

I'm not really sure what Lakota is trying to tell you, but I'd guess it's that he's very happy, content, and that he loves you!  We don't always understand what some behavior means.  Sometimes we find out later (put 2 and 2 together after some amount of time).  I mean, sometimes a parrot will do something (new) over and over again, but we really don't understand what it means/what the bird is doing until some other point later.  It might be his way of hugging you, telling you that all is OK, etc.  Perhaps he's mimicing something...do you do anything that might resemble what he's doing?  If he watches TV or other, could he be mimicing something he sees?

All's well with me, except for the darn cold and snow!  We've had a lot of snow this year and very cold temperatures.  I lost a 45-year old Mexican Red amazon last week.  She had a large tumor connecting her wing and chest.  She didn't suffer at all...broke my heart.  She was the only amazon I have that would choose her soft/nutritious food over seed when both were presented to her at the same time.

I hope you are doing well!

Answer
Hi again!

He might be trying to find blemishes on your face to pick at (since he's touching your freckles with his tongue).

When I got my first blue front amazon, I hadn't yet figured him out (only had him a couple months).  I had washed my hair.  My hair is long and kind of curly when wet.  I went to his cage and he climbed on my hand, we sat down on the sofa, something outside frightened him, and he locked on to my cheek with his beak!  Well, I couldn't just pull him off or my cheek would go, too, so I had to just wait for him to let go!  OUCH!  He let go after about 2 minutes.  Needless to say, I had a big wound on my face for a couple of weeks!  Not his fault.  So I know what you mean by not feeling comfy with him around your face.

I'm also numb on the right side of my face and neck (from neck surgery), so I don't let my parrots sit on my right shoulder!

Keep in touch!  Denver is nice...I have relatives there and have visited.  But they do seem to get lots of snow.  The mountains are great though!
