Lovebird behaviour

We have a ten month old single lovebird that is exhibiting very sexually frustrated behaviour.  He is trying to mate with anything from socks to towels.  When we try to get him out of his cage, he is suddenly getting very attacking towards us.  In his cage he is continually "mating" with a green velvet toy that we bought at a pet shop.  I am not coping with this and dont know how long to expect this to continue.  He has been a very loving bird up till now with the odd snap if tired.  Thanks  Heather

Hello Heather and thank you for your post.
This is breeding season, and all of the birds are hormonal this time of the year.  It should pass in the next couple of weeks (don't worry, it won't last forever).
Once it does pass, he should go back to his loving self.  Just keep trying to work with him so that he doesn't get the idea that he can be like this all of the time.
