Question
I have a 2 yr old Green Wing Macaw, and a 3 yr old Blue and Gold Macaw. I do have a proper grams scale. But, I really do not have any exact figures on a good wieght for these birds. If you could give me the proper wieght average for them, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Gary

Answer
Blue and Gold Macaws on the smallish side will be as little as 800 grams, with a typical B&G being in the area of 1,200-1,290 grams.
Sadie, our B&G, was hatched with two deformed feet and on the smaller side of normal. Her feet have been surgically corrected and her average weight is around 952-954 grams.  You can take a look at her - she thinks she's spectacular, and so do we.

We weigh our birds on the same day, at the same time every week and keep a record of it in their "birdy book".  This way we can head off health problems that would otherwise take some time to notice, like weight loss.  We can also predict when one of our girls might be "with egg" by their weight increase. This is helpful in order to watch out for egg binding or the like.

I really appreciate that you're asking this. What a good home you must be!
