Question
We have an African gray parrot for 27 years and always referred to it at HE, he knows HIS name as well as other quirky phrases, about 6 months ago i bought some random toys for HIM, one of which was a rabbit/ginny pig feeder in the form of a rabbit that had a round base and wouldn't be pushed over without jumping back in an upright position. in the beginning my parrot used to fight with it making all sorts of strange noises, which i thought was fun for HIM. after a few weeks he stopped talking to me and whistling too, refused to venture outside the cage and was spending all HIS time (with what appeared to be dropped wings) at the bottom of the cage with the rabbit feeder. When i was cleaning out the cage one day i was amazed to find an egg. Unfortunately i had damaged it so i threw it away, two days went by then HE laid another one. I immediately removed the rabbit feeder and the egg, thing went back to normal. then a few days ago the strange behavior started all over again. now HE is laid on three eggs ALL THE TIME, and is very protective of them this time. please help me i don't know what to do. many thanks  Michael

Answer
Hello Micheal and thank you for your post.
It certainly sounds like your African Grey Parrot thought of this Ribbit feeder as a mate, which is not an unusual thing.
Let HER sit on HER eggs until SHE either pushed them away or quits sitting on them altogether.  She is going to be protective of her eggs, and apparently this toy brought on her "mating instincts".
As soon as her "mothering instincts" are fulfilled, she should go back to normal.  At least you'll know in the future how she is going to act when she is ready to lay eggs.

Good luck and God Bless.
