Question
Hi,
i have a plum headed parrot.Have him since a week.It has hit and rubbed his head with the cage walls and his half bald from the head.I had hiim powered for any lice if he had so that it could be killed.
Gave him proper food.Take him out of the cage.still he rubs his head. There is not proper avian specialist in lahore, pakistan whom i could go to.I took him to the bird shop and the guy too said he migt have lice and pwoered hii.later he said since he is alone i should buy a female parrot for him as he is a male. Now i have two parrots a male and the female, but the parrot is still rubbing his head alot with the cages.I have no idea what should i do?
Is this sort of a disease?IF it is,is it contagious to humans? What shall i do?this is the first time i have bought parrots and i really do not know what is wrong with him.

Answer
Buying a male and a female does not make the male happy. You do NOT need to have birds in pairs! If he's rubbing his head, he may have a skin irritation and you can try to treat it by putting some aloe gel on his head. Do not use aloe that you buy in a bottle, buy an aloe plant and snip off some of the plant and squeeze the gel out of it.
It may also be a food allergy. Give him pellet food instead of seeds and you will probably see a difference.
