B&G Macaw sounds

Question
My b&g is 10 months old and he (non-stop) for hours at a time will just do
that croak sound every 4-5 seconds.  With this he flaps one wing.  Sometimes
he seems to lose balance a bit.  I brought him home from a reputable breeder
at 10 weeks and supplementally handfed him, while he ate his regular seed
diet.  He handfed until 6 months old.  He is very friendly and gets a lot of out
of the cage time on a perch, as well as an outside perch.  This croaking is
maddening.  He also bobs his head up and down a lot.  I have other birds who
talk, and are very nice.   But the b&g doesn't say a word, just croaks.  Is this
normal... it literally is every 4-5 seconds non-stop all day.  Can he have
something wrong with him?  the other b&g at the store that were born within
days of him are already talking up storms, and not croaking. Please help!

Answer
That croaking and bobbing is him begging for food. Lots of larger birds (mostly cockatoos, but sometimes macaws, too) don't fully wean until they're a year old. Give him some warm oatmeal (between 105 and 107 degrees F) on a spoon when he begs. That should stop the begging :) After a few days of feeding him, start to cut down the feedings by only giving in every OTHER time he begs (usually will end up feeding him morning and night) and gradually cut down more.
