Question
I had a real scare last night with my parrot. We have had him for about 18 years and we dont really know his age. The vet said there is not anyway to tell. Anyway, we heard him make a strange noise last night and so we went to check on him. He was at the bottom of his cage and he could not raise his head. We took him to our room and he walked around on the bed with his head just hanging. He seemed very tired. After about 20 minutes he raised his head and seemed to feel better. He slept with us all night and he just seemed tired. This morning he is much better and is acting normal. We would have taken him to emergency but in Reno there is no one who treats birds unless it is regular office hours. We had a complete physical and blood tests done about 6 months ago. All the tests were perfect. Do you have any idea what could have caused this? Do you think he had a stroke or something. Please advise as we are very worried. Thank you so much and I look forward to your reply!

Answer
Hello Cathy and thank you for your post.
It is possible that your bird had a stroke.  I suggest that you take him to a Certified Avian or Exotic Animal Vet ASAP for a check up.  The vets could better tell you what's going on with your friend than I am able to do.
Just like in people, there is no way to tell when a stroke will hit.
Please keep me updated.

Good luck and God Bless.
