macaws laying eggs

Question
i have a female macaw that has just laid 2 eggs.  she is 14 years old and raised from a baby.  she has laid eggs before a few times and we have removed them after 21 days.  what is the amount of time before we should remove the eggs?  we waited 26 days as she acted really strange and laid in the bottow of the cage, just coming out to poop, then back in to sit with the eggs.  no male is involved.  we took them out 2 days ago and today she just laid another egg.  what is the correct time frame to let her keep the eggs in her cage?

Answer
Hi Jerilyn,
You're doing a very good job and are pretty insightful about leaving the eggs.  Some people will substitute a couple of fake eggs in order to reduce the chance of breakage or bacteria.  Many craft stores carry 'eggs', whether plastic or wooden - you might have to experiment to see which your girl will believe.  Also, make sure there's no paint or other potentially toxic coating or layers.

Now, the ideal solution is, of course, preventing the egg laying to begin with.

Since I don't have a lot of space here, I've got the whole outline of things you can try here:

It's really not that difficult to change things just enough to stop the habit.  We don't want any possibility of egg binding right?

Let me know how it goes.
