Question
Hi Sarah,

I just discovered that my lovebirds have had babbies, three of them.  I think they hatched over two weeks ago.  I am wondering if there is anything I need to do for them, change some how i feed them, etc.  I have been feeding them 10 times more than regularly cause they eat so much now :)  Any help and tips is much appreicated.

Thanks,

Thomas

Answer
Hello Thomas,

Right now, best thing you can do, is try not to disturb them too much. Continue to feed them as you have been, lots of food!! They'll need it. Included in this should be rice, whole grain bread, fresh fruits and veggies (cooked frozen veggies are great also), eggs, pasta, etc. etc. Sounds like the parents are doing a great job thus far if the babies are more than 2 weeks old. That's awesome!! Congratulations. :)

Do you plan on handfeeding? Or just allowing the parents to raise the babies themselves? What you could do is co-parent, where you supplement feedings. An even better idea would be to handle the babies once or twice a day on a daily basis if you want them to be handtame. Just make sure this doesn't peeve the parents off and that you don't take them out for too long a period of time until they have more in the way of feathers.

Good luck! Hope to hear from you again,

Sarah
