Military & Blue/Gold Macaw mating

Question
Beau, 9 yrs. 6 mos B & G male (DNA tested both) & Holly, 6 yrs. 9 mos. Military Macaw have mated. Holly has laid 9 eggs since January 1, 2008. I'm trying to keep them apart but she keeps laying. There is no nest, she actually sat on my lap one evening & laid an egg. She refuses to sit on her egg(s), this is her first time. What more can I do to keep her from laying eggs or just let her? I've increased her calcium intake, etc., pelleted diet. I've candled some eggs that have a yolk but no dark spot in it which I understand would mean it's fertile. I do what I can to keep them seperate, they love to play & preen on their playstand during the day. I'm sure they mate when I'm in another room. I can't keep them apart all the time, they do love their play. I hand raised both & have no aggression problems, they both know the "step up" command since they were weeks old.  Any ideas?? I do not support the breeding of hybrids in macaws.  Thanks

Answer
Females will lay even when there's no male, so just having her buddy close by could be enough for her to continue this potentially dangerous habit.

You can leave her eggs with her (even though they're not fertile) to help discourage more.  Some people will secretly replace the laid eggs with fake eggs similar in size/color available at craft stores.  Just be sure there's no paint or anything on them and if you notice her chewing them, remove them.  Some birds aren't easily fooled.

I don't blame you for not separating them completely, it's important to avoid stressing them and it's so hard to part a pair that obviously care for each other isn't it?
