Question
Hi Brittany, i hope everything will be fine overthere :-)
I want to ask a question about breeding, i purchaised an Alexandrine Parakeet (male) 3 years ago when it was only 4 weeks old, now i want to purchaise a female for him (for breeding as i am so much interested in raising chicks), but some people say that ur Alexandrin has nevery seen a parrot how he can breed. they are of the openion that pet birds who are raised alone cannot breed. what do u say??? a week ago my friend gifted me an African grey who is 4 years old, same problem raised solely.
N my 2nd question is that for tamed birds what is prefferable, a tamed mate or a wild mate???
Thank u v much for giving ur precious time. God bless you :-)

Answer
I have 2 tamed birds which I hand raised myself and they are already showing intrest in breeding. I also know of a breeder who solely breeds tame pet birds and they produce the best tempered offspring. The best you can do is get a mate and let the birds decide, I got another baby when I decided to breed my lory, he was already 2 1/2 years, I got her when she was 2 weeks and raised her with my male in the cage next to her. It was very simple placing them in the same cage, they already knew eachother and I couldn't keep them away from eachother anyway. I would get a tame parrot or at least semi-tame, getting a wild birds could be dangerous to your parrot and you, especially if you want your bird to stay mostly friendly when having a mate.
