Regarding baldness of my grey parrot jim

Question
Hi I've a pair of african grey Jim and Jenny. Almost one week before I've noticed that my male parrot Jimm is facing hair loss on his head and I've found two of his main feather s droped in the bottom of the cage. The colour of his droppings has been changed to light green and white and also he is not taking food properly. He spent most of his time in  his nest box. Please tell me is it just his moulting season or should I gave him some medicine.

Answer
Hi Susheel Bhardwaj, thank you for asking this very caring question.  Yes, it is molting season and this could explain the feather loss you see; however, it would be very worthwhile to have them examined by an avian vet to be sure there isn't a parasite or infection.
If something is wrong, catching it early is usually the least expensive option.  We've had some birds that were denied $50 medical care and ended up costing more than $1,000 to treat just 3 weeks later!

Never give your bird medication unless a proper diagnosis is made. When you treat something that the bird doesn't have - it may throw off their natural intestinal flora and cause even more severe problems; plus, giving antibiotics too often may create an immunity and develop a "mega-bacteria" infection that could prove impossible to treat.  We've seen many, many birds lose the battle against these "mega bacterias".

I hope Jim and Jenny do well - they certainly have a caring owner. Good job!
