keeping kakarikis out of plant

Question
our kakaroki, even though we love him to bits will not keep out of the soil on my plants, is there anything we can put in the soi, maybe something like garlic to keep him off

Answer
Eeek, no garlic (not good for birds).  Honestly, the only sure way we've kept our birds out of plants is to remove the plants from the environment.

Or you can try placing river rocks over the soil (they can be pretty and they let the water seep through when you need to water the plants).  

Other people try covering the soil with foil, but I don't care for the look of this.  

Unfortunately no, there are not any substances that will put a bird off through taste without harming the bird.
