Question
i have a degu who is still quite young and although he's quite sociable is it possible to introduce a baby rat to him for companionship? also to live together in the same cage?

Answer
NEVER put a rat and another animal together unless you want the other animal dead.  I love both species and have both, but the simple fact is that rats are omnivores meaning they eat everything.  That means meat--even live animals.  Degus are herbivores--they only eat vegetables and grasses (not even fruits).  Do not put these two animals together if you want them to both live.
