Question
Hi, I have a Lop Ear Rabbit and now that I'm 10, my mum has let me look after her. Because I'm still at school and don't have much time to look after her now, I want to keep her happy. Miss Loppy lives outdoors in a cage that my dad made. The biggest part is where she can run and play and the smaller part she has made into her toilet. So far I have put in there a ramp, big box with shreded paper, a tunnel made out of fruit sticks and a baby toy I have put in today. But her cage still looks plane. I also give her fresh greens and carrots twice a week plus her daily fresh wanter and grain. I just want her not to be loney and be happy. Please help me, Katelyn

Answer
It is nice to know that you wish to make your Loppy so happy. There are lots of things that you can do to make her have more fun and here are some ideas. At the bottom are websites with pictures of what others have done that you may like to look at.

-one thing that we did is pick fresh grass to give to our rabbits daily or at least ever other day. Just a handful to give them a taste of grass and make them happy with a little snack.

-anytime that you eat an apple, orange, watermelon any fruit or veggies you can give them the part that you cut off or don't eat. They even will eat rinds and peeling and it is a health food for them. It also helps save on money and make your rabbit food stretch longer so you mom/dad doesn't have to buy as much.

-things like toilet roll tubes, paper towel tubes, empty buckets from your ice cream are good toys. They like to throw these about and play. After they destroy them then you can throw them away just like you would have done before.

-sticks, small logs, pine cones are good things for your rabbit to gnaw on and play with. Make sure these haven't been treated with anything like a wood stain or sprayed with bug spray. if you happen to find a hollow one then it makes it even more fun for them to play in a tunnel.

-you can give your rabbits boxes with cut outs to fit through or even a large sized pvc pipe for them to play with. This gives them hide-n-seek time.

-If you are allowed you can get a guinea pig to play with your rabbit. Guinea pigs and rabbits are great together and you don't have to worry about having little rabbits. They can live together (even outside) and eat the same foods making it easier to have together.

-As a thought if your mom/dad shredded there bills you can use that for bedding. The rabbit will not only play with it but make her bed as well, and you parent(s) won't have to worry about anyone trying to use their mail for anything :)

I hope that this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
