Question
can a wild mouse bite a hole into a mesk cover?

Answer
Dear Who,

If you mean "mesh" it depends on what it is made out of and if it is flexible or not.  Hard, sturdy plastic mesh (like a fish tank top), or any kind of metal mesh, should be fine.  Screening is usually not metal anymore these days, so if that is what you have, check it first.

If it is a soft plastic mesh then the mouse may be able to chew its way out.  The same goes for wicker.

I usually build a lid out of 1/4" galvanized steel mesh ('hardware cloth').  Any larger than 1/4" and the mouse can get out.  They can fold their rib cage and bodies and fit anywhere their little heads can!  Fold the edges over carefully so you do not hurt yourself handling the lid.

Buying a ready-made metal mesh lid is fine and it is probably made of 1/4" galvanized steel mesh!

If you did not mean 'mesh' when you wrote 'mesk' then please let me know what exactly you are thinking of.  Thank you!

squeaks & giggles,

Natasha
