Question

2 mice playing
I'm a licensed wildlife rehabber who is raising three baby wild mice (given to me because the finders thought they were squirrels!).  They are about 3.5 wks old now and starting to wean off formula.  I am in the New York City area and it's November....can I release them in a couple of weeks or should I keep them over the winter?

Answer
Dear Maura,

It's pretty cold here in NYC (I live here too!).  I don't think the babies will be very happy trying to find a warm place in a couple of weeks when they are old enough.  I would keep them over the winter and let them go when it is over 50 most of the time.

Also, I am trying to contact a guy who finds homes for wild foundlings and he may be able to hook you up with someone.  I will write again if this seems possible.

Have fun with them!
