Removing mouse from closet

Question
My cat brought in a mouse about 5 days ago.  The mouse was stunned for a moment and then ran behind the china cabinet.  I left the door to the yard open for a day and figured the matter was done.  Tonight I was heating the over, and opened the door to be sure it was empty, and out leapt the mouse.  He is now hiding the the closet.  I am looking on suggestions on how to get him to go outside by himself.

Answer
Dear Ellen,

Depending on where the mouse ends up, you might have to get a live trap.  However, it might depend on the location and content of your closet.  One option is to carefully empty the closet of items one by one (with someone playing goalie in case the mouse starts to dart out) until you are down to the mouse, and a few things.  Then take a paper towel roll or toilet paper roll and put it down for the mouse in the closet. Continue removing items till the mouse is forced into the tube (where it will go rather than stay in the open).  The take gloved hands and cover the ends of the tube to bring the mouse safely outdoors.

Best of luck :)
