Question
So I got two 5 day old mice from the pet store to raise so they wouldn't become cobra food. They are really really fat and I weighed them (5.7 grams and 5.1 grams) to see how much they should eat. I have been feeding them what they are supposed to be fed according to what I found on the Internet but they have lost weight(5.1 grams and 4.6 grams) so I started feeding them more but I don't want to overfeed them so what do you think? The domestic ones are way bigger than the wild ones I have found previously. Also I know the weight loss was not from dehydration because they have both been peeing and pooping just fine

Answer
Hi Jess,

I've never seen a pup eat too much!  Feed them as much as they want, as many times as they want.  They'll tell you when to quit by refusing and getting fussy.  I'd start with every two-three hours and only back off if you're having to wake them up each time only to have them refuse (baby mice are round-the-clock jobs, as I'm sure you already know!).  I'm not sure what you're feeding them right now, but kitten milk replacement is my go-to and I always have some on hand.  You can try adding a little more water, or less, when you prepare it, but each pup should steadily gain a little weight each day, so I would definitely try more meals first and see if you can put some meat on them!

Best of luck!
