Update on Orphaned Deer Mouse

Question
Hi Natasha,

Update on little Festus, who you helped me to save back in June! She now has a new 30 gallon aquarium, and I am hoping I determined her sex right (we have to change her name, LOL) because I just bought a female fancy mouse to keep her company! I followed all of your directions on how to introduce them and they are hitting it off perfectly! They are cuddled up in their nest together, as happy as can be! Poor Festus was really scared when I introduced them, as I don't know if she was able to remember what another mouse looked or smelled like! But she came around in about an hour or two and there hasn't been any fighting or chasing at all.
Thanks again for all of the help!
Barb

Answer
Dear Barbara,

Thank you so much for the update! If Festus ( maybe female Fiesta?) Is a field mouse / deer mouse, you do not have to worry about sex. They cannot breed between species. If she is a he, and is a wild house mouse, they can, and I REALLY do not recommend that. First generation hybrids are notoriously difficult to tame. Much more so than plain wild mice.

Kisses to Festus!

Squeaks n giggles,

Natasha

Oops! Read your title as I was sending. So you have a deer mouse; good.
