Question
I bought a crab about 2 months ago and decided it needed a friend. so I
bought another maybe 2 weeks ago. so every time I go in to check on them
they are on top of each other. it's weird because the one I just bought will
ALWAYS be on top with his legs/claws in the other ones shell. I know the
other one is not dead. but tonight I don't know if it was them or not but I
heard noises. almost like a squeaking noise. I have a feeling it was them
because when I put my ear to the tank it was loud. can you please tell me
what they are doing?

Answer
It sounds like shell fighting. Do you have plenty of other shells in the crabitat that are the right type and size? Sometimes if there are not enough shells the "new guy" will get picked on for his shell. If you have enough shells then the next course of action would be to give both guys a dip in the water dish and offer them a big banquet of fresh proteins (meats/fish/shrimp) as well as other fresh foods. This should rectify the problem. There is often a little wrestling when a new guy arrives. This is normal and as long as noone is pinching they are doing normal crabby behavior and separating them will not help.

The sound you hear is chirping and does often happen during some fighting although it is also very common as a "GET OFF ME!" cry when a crab is being piled on.
