Question
i bought a female guinea pig on march 24. i know she is pregnant but how will i know she is going into labor. i read that she will make a noise when she is going into labor what kind of noise is it she has been laying on her side and has stayed in a corner most of the day her sides look big but i very rarely see her belly move. a friend told me that i should see her sides moving all the time.i need a answer ASAP i don't know if she is having her babies soon or if there is still sometime to go

Answer
Hello Lynnette,

They don't typically make noises when going into labor or delivering. Like most prey animals they usually get quieter so as not to attract predators to them. Every sow reacts differently. Usually the babies will been seen moving easily a few weeks before delivery then the day (or the day before) delivery pup movement will slow down alot. Some sows will be very fidgety and uncomfortable (all of mine were) and some will get very quiet settled in a corner. You will see contractions when she goes into labor. It's like a ripple runs down her body from the head to the bum. Delivery is usualy very quick. Just stay with her as much as possible (constantly if you can), and you'll likely be able to tell when it's time. Good luck and best wishes for a safe delivery and healthy pups!
