Question
My hamster has behaving very strangely, a couple of days ago i looked into his little house and he was moving in there but his eyes were pratically closed and it was as if he was dreaming and moving in his sleep, so i left him as he didn't come out when he saw me. Then yesterday he went into the corner of his cage, very slowly and slightly hunched and hasn't moved has his head hunched down in the corner, so i cannot see his face, but he is still breathing though, but didn't move when i put fresh food in and i dont think he has had a drink.

i am very worried, when i have tried to get his attention he isn't looking up or anything!

Do u think he is going to die, or that he is in pain, because i will have him put to sleep if u think he could be in pain?

have u got any ideas, what could be wrong?

Thank you
Katie

Answer
hi katie,
he may have just been dreaming when you saw him in his house. hamsters do dream occasionally and can sometimes give out a little squeak too(hamster equivalent to sleep talking!)
however, hunching could be due to illness.he could have a tummy ache, constipation or the beginnings of a disease called wet-tail.
is your hammy eating and drinking ok? if he is off his food and drink it is a general sign that all is not well. hamsters generally have a routine that they follow everyday.if he is not doing things that he normally does, then there is reason for concern.
you know him best,if you are at all concerned about him,you should take him to the vets. they can check him out and give him a course of antibiotics, which generally settles anything thats internal. plus it offers peace of mind for you.
i doubt it will be anything serious and i'm sure he's not in pain.if he has got something like constipation then he might feel a little uncomfortable and that could be why he feels out of sorts.
hope this helps and hope your little furry friend is feeling better soon.
thanks for your question, jewel
