Question
QUESTION: Recently I got one male and female winter white dwarf Russian hamster.
Safyer and normal. They were from the same cage and there were at least
10 other hamsters inside. When I brought them home and introduced
them to their new cage, they had occasional fights and I had to use a
cardboard to stop them. What can I do now to stop them from fighting?
And could be the female is pregnant but they are only 10  weeks?

ANSWER: Dear Chermaine,
thank you for your question.
The female can definitely be pregnant. Dwarf hamsters can mate when they are four weeks old, although they shouldn't be bred until they are four months old.
Winter White dwarfs are social in the wild and live as pairs with their babies and sometimes the juveniles of the litter before the current one, but in captivity it very often doesn't work out. Part of the problem is that even the biggest cage is nowhere as big as the territory they would have and they can never avid the other hamster. They would also choose their mate in the wild and not accept any hamster that just walks into their territory. I wouldn't try to reintroduce them, there's a big risk that they will hurt each other, it's even possible that one may end up dead. In captivity, dwarf hamsters are better kept single, especially when they already have started to fight.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer

QUESTION: I haven't separated them yet. Is there any other way to stop them from fight apart from separating them? Could they be play-fighting(how can I tell from play-fighting and real fighting#. I washed the whole cage and put the male into the cage for 30minutes to mark his scent and then put in the female.#A way I got in the Internet.) So far, they only fought 1-2 times. I really hope they can stop fighting.

ANSWER: There is no such thing as playfighting with dwarf hamsters. They obviously don't like each other and you risk their health by keeping them together. They may have fought only one or two times while you were watching, but you can't control what they do late at night, when they are most active. I really recommend separating them right now.

QUESTION: Hihi, sorry to ask again. My 5mth old female winter white safyer dwarf russian hamster just gave birth this morning to 2 baby hamsters.I didnt expect her to give birth and I took her out ytd to play. What can I do and give her to prevent her from cannibalism? Btw,I took out the male hamster already because he wants to attack the babies.

Answer
Just leave her alone and don't disturb her except for feeding her, don't clean the cage for the next three weeks (if you can wait longer, that's even better). Offer extra animal protein, for example insects (mealworms, silkworms, crickets - dead or alive) or dog treats, insects are better though.
If you need to check on the nest, wait until she's out to get food and use a spoon or a stick so that she doesn't notice your smell on the babies.
Two babies is a very small litter, it's possible that she already ate some of the babies. She may also be pregant again,  dwarf hamsters can mate directly after giving birth.
