How to feed my hamster?

Question
QUESTION: Hi,thanks for answering my question. My female hamster which I mentioned earlier gave birth to 2 hamsters. I want to feed her some food, how can I feed her w/o disturbing her? Now, I just feed her when she comes out of her nest through the cage bars, is that okay? Or should I open the cage and put the food in but it makes quite a loud noise?

ANSWER: You can just feed her normally by opening the cage. She is used to that sound and it doesn't disturb her nest. You just should avoid any unusual activities around the cage and anything that disturbs the nest. She will be fine then.

QUESTION: Can you give any examples of unusual activities? Is taking out food(Eg.hard-boiled egg or changing of food bowls) okay? My cage is near the television and the ceiling fan, isit okay to 1)switch on my television at the usual volume? 2)switch on the fan at the lowest?. Isit also okay to occasionally peek at them from a far distance? Sorry for asking so many questions at one time and THANKS for helping me!!

Answer
You can do anything you did around the hamster before she gave birth, she is used to all that. I would look for another place for the cage that's not near the TV, though, since hamsters have very good hearing and even at low volumes the TV is very loud for her.

Unusual/disturbing for the mother would be cleaning the cage, looking into the nest constantly, taking her out of the cage ect. Changing the food and water bowl shouldn't bother her at all. As long as she isn't in the nest, you can take a look into the nest, but don't use your fingers or at least rub them with some used bedding from the cage to mask your smell.
