Question
Hello, Could max cat kitten formula be fed to ferrets for life? I was reading in a book and it said to change to adult cat food as they get older... don't they ened a hihg level of protine which isnt in adult cat foods?

Answer
Hello,
I would say to use  a kitten food, high in protein, but as your ferret gets a bit older (4 years or so), switch to an adult food. The problem is that there are as many debates on what to feed your ferret as there are ferret owners. Some feed kitten food, some swear by cat food, some are appalled at feeding kitten/cat food, and swear by ferret food ... and then there are actually some ferret owners who feed raw meat!
I can ONLY speak from my personal experience. And I have had people tell me it's wrong, and I have had people tell me it's right on the money. But I have fed my ferrets The Purina Special Care, and have virtually NO heath problems from it. And my ferrets lived to 7-9 years old, healthy and happy. I also supplement with a few drops of Ferretone every week.
It REALLY is just the basics with feeding your ferrets, of avoiding the fish meal because it can make their odor very pungent, and avoiding the high Ash content due to possible urinary problems. After that, it is a matter of personal preference. The kitten food you describe sounds good, and the list of ingredients looks good. If you are worried, you can also ask your vet. My vet was the one who recommended the Special Care. So your vet can really be helpful too. Thanks, and I hope this helps.
