Ferrets and grief

Question
Can a ferret die out of grief of being separated from his owners?
My ferret was only 5yrs old and unfortunately I made the mistake of giving him away; in a matter of 2 months he was gone.  I'm not sure if they took care of him properly or if he was just sad and grieving.

Answer
It is not unheard of for a ferret to grieve to death. But that mainly pertains to ferrets who have lost a cagemate. But I would not say it is impossible for a ferret to die from separation of an owner.

But there could have also been a medical reason behind his death. The only way to know if it were medical or not would be for a vet to perform a necropsy

I am sorry for your loss.
