Question

I am becoming concerned with a problem I have noticed with my beardie. He is approx 10-12 years old so I have to also remind myself that he is near his life expectancy, but there is a problem. I had noticed that he seemed to have tail rot. I took him to the vet and he did and a tail amputation was done removing about 5-6 inches of tail. He was doing fine until I noticed the end portion of the new tail he had was turning a completely different color from his body. I again talked to the vet and more antibiotics were prescribed. I was giving the antibiotics and then noticed that his tail seemed to ooze in one specific spot. Again I thought he would be okay because of the meds he was on. I just assumed he had an infection as did the vet. My question of concern now is that the spot that was oozing (is not anymore) seemed to loose the scales and now it looks like healed skin but without the scales. I was wondering if the scales would every grow back or if the bare skin would be what was left only. I also do soak him in a solution of an agent to keep their skin clean (forgot the name, blue solution mixed with water) twice daily and was wondering if it was still okay to continue soaking the area with no scales? I feel so bad because I always have questions about everything that happens to him. I just was wondering if you would have any information for me.

Thanks,
Samantha

Answer
Hello, something similar once happened to my bearded dragon, the scales may never grow back. This should not be bad for him but if he does grow any scales at all it may not be too much. Go ahead and keep soaking that spot, it can't hurt it but will keep it clean. If scales will grow it will take a while.
