sleepy beardie

Question
Lizzy for the past month has been sleeping most of the time, and not eating or drinking.  We bath her to perk her up in which works for a day or so, then she crawls back down in her cage to a cool spot.  Our cage is quite large with two levels, lots of heat and sunlight, but she prefers lately the bottom of the cage in the shade.  The sides are made of screen so there is lots of air flow as well.  I give her fresh food and water each day.  Usually she chows her meal worms but she won't even eat them.  We did change the bottom of the cage to sterilized wood shavings 3 months ago could that be it, can the wood shaving be making her sick?  I did read on the net that beardies go into a hibernative state for awhile and not eat, just sleep have you heard of that?  I need help the closest vet is 200 miles away and my children love Lizzy dearly.

Answer
Hello, Bearded dragons do go in to a hibernative state but this happens during the cold winter months. If your area is having winter like weather then this is the reason. The shavings may have caused impaction. If this is the case she will need to see a vet if not, then she may be sick with an illness.
