Question
Okay, never had an issue before, but now I'm desperate since I don't like paying 500+ $ to visit a reptile vet/herpetologist. So my beardie is shedding, for starters, and usually doesn't go to the bathroom but once every 4-7 days. He is almost 2 1/2 yrs old and is fed a variety of lettuce(kale and broccoli and bok choy give him either major bellyache and you can't touch him or major diahrea) with the occaisional carrots and fruits. He does have sand, but usually leaves it be(except when digging to china) I make sure he eats, but he tends to eat a ton some days and little others. This goes on even when he is not shedding. This, as well as some degree of lethargy(he "rests" either on his branches or on the ground for several hours of the day, mixing in between short bouts of energy; I assume this is normal since he's been doing it most his life) I just gave him a bath since he absolutely refuses, by any means, to ingest water not attatched to his food. He's had diahrea the last few times he's gone to the bathroom, and that worries me. He also recently had an infection in his toe, and after treatment it fell off. Also, about 2 weeks ago he went for almost 3 without uvb rays because my sister told me the uva bulb was a uvb. I'm not sure if that's the main cause, but I know it has to do with part of his lack of energy. (Also, as a side note, I cannot "feed him limitless crickets" every day, or give them to him daily or he will quit eating his lettuce untill I stop. Tried that, sorry. Upping his protien isn't helping, because then he doesn't fully digest it.) Can you. Help? Sorry this is so long, but with beardies specifics are evrything. Thanks!

Answer
Hey there, i can see that the issue that he went without the proper heating and li9ghting for a few days may have been a problem but bearded dragons are hardy creatures and can live a while without what they need until they receive the proper necessities. if he does regularly go to the bathroom i wouldn't be worried about impaction. Usually they will get bloated and wont  go to the  bathroom at all while impacted. Also, impaction eventually causes paralysis in the hind legs. If your bearded dragon is being lethargic without much activity that is when i would lean towards more of illness or parasite. You can try warm baths, healthy vitamins, or meds you can buy online but until you know what exactly is going on then he may not get better. You are going to get to the only conclusion, you need to see your vet. Only he/she can tell you what is going on.
